Kelly Preston is an actress and model who is also known for being married to actor John Travolta. She was born October 13th, 1962 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was born with the name Kelly Kamalelhua Smith. Her father died by drowning when Kelly was three years old. Kelly's mother remarried and she was adopted by the man, Peter Palzis. She used his last name when her acting career began. The family spent some time living in Australia.

It was there that a fashion photographer spotted Kelly and got the teenager into modeling. Kelly Preston went back to Hawaii in order to finish high school and later went to The University of Southern California before transferring to UCLA. She never got her diploma though because she decided to pursue her career as an actress.

Her debut role was on a series called "Capitol" in which she played a troubled teen in 1982. By the next year, Kelly had taken the stage name of Preston and started to receive several roles in TV and film. During the 1980s, Kelly Preston was in relationships with high profile actors like Charley Sheen and George Clooney.

From 1987 to 1989, Preston was married to actor Kevin Gage. In 1990, she was in the movie "The Experts". While the film did not help Preston's career, she did meet her future husband John Travolta on the set. They began dating that year. By 1991, the couple was married and had a son in 1992. Later, in 2000, they had a daughter together. Preston and Travolta were the victims of an extortion plot after their son died in 2009 due to a seizure. Kelly Preston decided to step down from acting and support her husband's career instead, though she started to appear in films again especially after 2006.
